Alissa's Story

Alissa is a wife, mother of 6 beautiful kids, daughter, sister, friend, and fantastic 1st grade teacher, who has a love for all things Disney!

On Monday, February 27 Alissa started having side pain while on her lunch break.  She continued teaching her first grade students, but as soon as school was out she went right to the ER.  After a CT and ultrasound it was discovered that she had a 9mm kidney stone that was causing an obstruction as well as Hydronephros.  They admitted her to the hospital and she had surgery later that night to remove the stone and place a stint in her kidney.

By March 7th she was back in the ER due to severe pain.   It wasn't long after she arrived in the ER that things took a severe turn.  By the next day Alissa was in the ICU sedated, on life support and dialysis due to a life threatening case of Sepsis (a severe infection of the blood).  The doctors gave her a 50% chance of survival.  It was devestating to see someone so full of life on the brink of death.  Click here for Information on Sepsis

The Road to Recovery

Alissa's recovery is going to be long and painful.  As of Friday, March 10 she was taken out of sedation and was able to breath on her own.  Her kidneys still are not functioning as they should, which is concerning to her doctors.  Alissa is able to take a few steps with multiple people assisting, but every move she makes is extremely painful.  Her body was fighting to survive, taking blood away from other areas to ensure her heart and brain were able to function.  Her toes and feet are very bruised.

She still requires assistance with eating and drinking and is still very swollen from the amount of liquids given through her IV during her time in the ICU.   The hospital expects her to spend about another week there followed by another week in a recovery facility.   We (her family) are extremely thankful for the care she has received during her recovery.  We heard from many doctors, specialists, and nurses that her recovery thus far has been nothing short of a miracle.  Sepsis is a killer of both young and old, and we are so grateful for the amount of prayer that surrounds her daily.

What is Needed

While Adam and Alissa are so thankful for her recovery and her progress, they are very stressed and distraught over the amount of medical bills, loss of income from time away from work, and daily bills.   They have both exhausted their vacation/sick time and have been forced to take unpaid days off (Alissa for obvious reasons, and Adam to be at the hospital as well to be home to take care of their children).  Their insurance deductible is $5500, with an out of pocket maximum around $10,000.   Her medical bills are roughly $80,000-100,000 so they will be hitting the out of pocket maximum as soon as the hospital processes her recent stays.  I am asking for help to raise $15,000 to pay for the out of pocket medical expenses as well as their time away from work.  My hope is that Alissa can focus on getting healthy and healing rather than on worrying about how to pay for her medical expenses.  I am so grateful that you are taking the time to read her story.  If you are able to donate to their cause it will mean so much to the Danielson family as they focus getting Alissa home and healthy. If you aren't able to donate please say a prayer (or 2, or 3) for strength and healing.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
