Alison and Doug’s IVF Journey

Hi, my name is Alison. I want to thank you in advance for taking the time to read about our journey in starting a family.

I know Doug and I are going to be extraordinary parents, but our journey to bringing a baby into this world has been one filled with heartbreak, and an abundance of emotional and financial stressors.

We began trying to have a baby soon after we got married in 2021. In less than two years, we have lost four babies to miscarriages (Oct. 2021, March 2022, Aug. 2022, May 2023). After the third loss is when we did as much testing as we could to figure out what might be going on - why I could get pregnant but couldn’t stay pregnant.

In September of 2022 we found out Doug has a balanced translocation. What exactly does this mean? It means there’s a bit of a hiccup in Doug’s genes. When half of his genes form with mine, there’s been too many chromosomes or not enough.

After our fourth loss, my doctor told us that we have had the worst luck given our situation. At that time she recommended looking into IVF with PGT where they will test the embryos and only transfer balanced/normal em-babies.

So here we are, on the IVF journey.

I pride myself in being fully open about our experience in hopes no one ever feels like they are alone. I also want to be fully transparent on the costs associated with this new journey we find ourselves on:

A majority of the costs above are for 1 cycle. If the transfer fails, there is no “refund” or “transfer” of the fees paid - it is simply lost money without Doug and I getting our rainbow baby. And since we live in a state where fertility testing and treatments are exclusions on policies, no part of our IVF journey is covered by insurance.

Doug and I have waited these past three years for our dreams of being parents to become a reality, and we hope this page will release some of the financial burden so we can pour all our energy into the IVF process. All donations received will help us with these expenses as we continue our journey to starting a family.
