Ali’s Expenses Due to a Medical Emergency
Donation protected
Hey Everybody,
Thank you all for the love and support in reading this…I wanted to create this page and share for someone I truly love and care about.
All of you that know me, know I don’t normally do this, but it’s extremely important to me.
“Ali” aka “Alix” Alixandria Storey has been a part of my life (family) since she was just a little girl. Her mother, Nicole, is my best friend of 17 years …and as it goes, my children are hers..and hers are mine.
Ali…it’s such a tiny name for such a “big” girl. Watching this young lady grow into the woman that she is today has been a gift in my life. Ali fought the odds as a teen mother to become an accomplished, successful woman in today’s world…and it is an honor to know her. She sparks a laugh in every room with an “off the cuff” joke and amazes me with her beauty and style every time I see her. She’s a fighter for what she believes in her heart and has inspired even me to level up my parenting (at 40!). So, it is with an extremely emotional and heavy heart that I share this information, so bear with me…
As of today, Ali was diagnosed with a “diseased colon” and is facing significant medical procedures and trial medications.
This was discovered after days of immense discomfort and alarming symptoms. One February 1st, Ali went to the Atrium Union emergency room with internal bleeding that was presenting itself. After an exam and CT scan, they sent her home that day….the doctors reported that the CT scan did not show anything significant, so there was no action taken by the medical staff.
After one week of starting a new job, she was too weak to eat or drink any fluids. She returned to the same emergency room with a high fever and more bleeding.
This time she was admitted and seen by several doctors. Ultimately, the doctors could not agree or disagree that the fever was due to covid. She did test positive for covid, however, the doctors could not determine if the fever was due to covid or a lower GI infection that was also discovered. They determined her “too risky” to explore the cause of the problem in her intestinal tract resulting in bleeding and attempted to stabilize her. The administered antibiotics and steroids though IV (standard protocol for these symptoms) and also performed a blood transfusion to bring her iron levels up during her stay. After 5 days in the hospital, Feb 10, 2023, she was sent home and told to “follow up” with a specialist. At this time, nobody knew what was causing this - could it be covid? ulcerative colitis? diet?….there were no answers. She was sent home with oral antibiotics and steroids.
On Feb 12, 2023 Ali was still declining…And was visually worse after being home for 2 days. She was unable to move from her couch, at home, to care for herself.
She went back to the emergency department.
This time she went to Novant hospital in Matthews. Today on Feb 14, 2023, After 2 days at Novant hospital in Matthews, they were able to scope her upper and lower intestinal tract and determined a severe “diseased colon.” There was also a biopsy performed today. Those results will be in the doctors hands by 4 pm on Feb 15. Once the results are analyzed, they will be read to the family.
We are impatiently waiting those results to determine what the next steps will be in Ali’s recovery and treatment. During this time, her medical expenses are being covered by health insurance, but we are unsure of any that may not be covered or considered “radical” medical treatment. We also know there is inevitable surgery that she is facing and she will not be able to return to work at this time (or until after she had fully recovered from surgery).
As a 26 year old mother of 3 young children, she also has other household expenses that will need to be maintained in order to ensure that she can resume some form of normalcy for her and her children.
We (Ali’s friends and family) are asking that you consider donating to assist with these. After speaking, and meeting with, the family tonight, we have determined that her finances run her roughly 1800-2000 a month. This would be for her rent (900/mo.), car payment (350/mo.), car insurance (200/mo.), electric bill (200/mo.), phone bill (100/mo.). There is also some assistance that would be needed in caring for her children. Their father is taking 100% responsibility for them at this time, but it would be a help to the entire family of we could help him as well.
I started the goal out at 10,000 In hopes to cover from 3-6 months of at least her household expenses…until she is able to return to work. We have been in communication with her employer who has ensured us that they will hold her position for her.
Thank each and every one of you for donating, considering a donation, praying, or just reading and sharing…we love you all. As I receive updates from the family, I will be sure to update this page.
All My Love,
Carly
