THIS IS A SECRET ;)
Hi my name is Zach and after exhausting our bank accounts, I am reaching out on behalf of my wife, Ali. Ali has spent her whole life taking care of others (can i get an amen!) and now it is our turn to take care of her. She specified she didn't want to ask for donations from people but I would really like to surprise her and make this life-saving trip happen for her. Let me tell you a little about her 2024.
In 2023, Ali started getting sick more often. She came down with Strep, Covid and Influenza in a short amount of time. Her asthma was flaring up almost uncontrollably which left her hospitalized often. She even had to let go of her HR Management role that she loved so much due to her illness. She just never felt well. Fast forward to moving back to Michigan to be near family, she started experiencing bloating, stomach issues and pelvic pain. She started having migraines that caused her to vomit. She continued to fight through it and tried not to miss work or big events but most days were spent in her bed. She suffered in silence most days, didn't want to complain. Time and time again she was sent home with little answers and new meds or routines to try. Finally she became her own advocate. She demanded a referral to a specialist and her dr obliged. This specialist performed a hysterectomy March 8 after spotting a tumor from an ultrasound he ordered. He graciously volunteered to come in on his scheduled day off so Ali wouldn't have to linger in pain any longer. During surgery, he found a large grapefruit sized tumor along with a smaller one. Once Corewell couldn't diagnose the tumor, they sent it to Maryland to be analyzed by Johns Hopkins. This facility found a differential diagnosis of Ovarian Cancer. Ovarian Seromucinous Borderline Tumor and Clear Cell Carcinoma. Ali's dr got it all out and it appears it did not spread! However, the borderline tumor is a precursor for Low Grade Serous Carcinoma, which is resistant to treatment. The Clear Cell Carcinoma, if it returns, is also- YOU GUESSED IT- resistant to any treatment. Now she is being referred to the LEADING ovarian cancer center in the United States in Houston Texas to a physician who specializes in Rare Ovarian Cancers so that she can be sure to receive the exact care that is needed for this particular cancer. It appears she is one of only 2 in the world that has received this differential diagnosis, so you can imagine just how rare it is!!!
Given the house squatter situation we fought in Indiana, asthma visits, kids' accident a few weeks ago and now this- we just need a little extra financial help to GET her to Houston. It was suggested that Ali do a pop can fundraiser (since she refused to just simply ask for donations, this would give her something to DO to earn it) but we do not have time to organize and handle that before she will need to get there. We will need a flight, hotel stay, car rental and food expenses. I want to surprise her with this if I am able so please don't say anything to her. Since she is not on Facebook this shouldn't be too difficult to conceal. lol if we are blessed with more than asked...than good golly molly we will rejoice and will use that for future Houston trips! Thank you all for reading this far and THANK YOU even if all you can do is pray--- praying is the ultimate help right now on her situation anyway. Thank you from a husband who loves his wife so dearly and just wants her to be here when her children get married, and spend time with her future grandbabies that she has dreamt about since she had Connor so young. I want her to have peace of mind.
