Support Alique to Settle Wrongful Eviction

JPMorgan Chase offered me a paid position as a Compliance Officer starting in August of 2022, with a starting salary of $70,000. As time went on, however, I became increasingly panicked; we neared the date of orientation and my current lease would end shortly thereafter. I had not heard from my recruiter in weeks despite having sent multiple emails explaining my need for an offer letter. Her colleague informed me that she had been on vacation and that the matter would be settled upon her return. I replied that it was urgent and that I would need proof of employment in order to move into a new apartment as soon as possible, but he did not respond.

I thought I was lucky to find an apartment complex that only needed a credit check to move in at 80 on the Commons in Columbus, OH. In the coming months I was unable to afford my rent at $2,000 a month; the Veterans Service Commission of Franklin County would not assist me because I was unemployed; my Columbus apartment at 80 on the Commons evicted me and I am now $7,000 indebted to a collections agency as a result of the offer having been rescinded with no notice or communication. I have been unable to find reasonably priced housing in public establishments ever since, and most landlords and leasing companies will not rent to tenants who have any record of eviction.

As of May 2023 the Franklin County Municipal Court has ordered the eviction be struck from all online records due to “unusual and exceptional circumstances,” however, a collections agency acquired the debt before the court passed the order, which imposes a significant obstacle to normal life due to its presence on my credit report.
