Giving Young People & Their Families the Tools They Need to Recover from Drug Addiction
Did you know that drug overdoses are now the leading cause of accidental deaths in the United States? According to a report released in 2015, accidental drug overdoses now kill more people than car accidents, with overdose deaths having doubled over the past 14 years (NBC News).
According to SCVNews.com, there have been three drug overdoses in the Santa Clarita Valley this year and four yet to be confirmed by the Coroner's office.
Too many families in SCV are facing the horror of the war on drugs in their own homes and in the lives of their loved ones. Drug addiction is not bound by social class, education level or race – it is a problem that can plague every level of a society. In a community like SCV, privileged and underprivileged youth alike are struggling with substance abuse and destructive behaviors, and many young people have tragically lost their lives to drug overdoses.
Substance addiction and destructive behaviors impact entire families and groups of friends - not just the person caught up in the abuse.
It is for this very reason that A Light of Hope Support Center strives to help youth, young adults and their families who are going through recovery in our community and in rehab facilities in the surrounding areas of the Santa Clarity Valley.
