"Alien" - Experimental Thesis Short Film
Donation protected
An immigrant girl from a foreign land encounters a foreign creature from a distant planet. Both aliens to each other, not alone anymore.
"Alien" is an experimental short thesis film that follows Rachel, a Filipina girl in her early 20s-- "We can't save each other"
A cosmic explorer takes an interest in her, lost as well-- "I don't need saving."
Director's Statement
“Building life in a new country often involves merging new and old traditions…the process of adapting to a new country– while maintaining one’s culture and belief system - can evoke complicated feelings of both loss and belonging.” In my final year of college, I've reflected heavily on my identity and how I stay true to myself and my Filipino background. I want this film to be a contemplative piece that questions the very root of one's being, how one comes to peace with their past, present, and future in isolation but then one's willingness to let someone else in, let someone else understand. I hope that others can find themself in the film someway, somehow and that I can express my deep compassion for those who, too, feel at a lost with who they are.
