The Houston flooding caused by Hurrican Harvey has been devasting. There are so many people that have lost so much. There are so many people in need. My name is Jenny Payne. I currently live in Denver, Colorado, but from 2005-2015 I lived in Houston and worked as an educator in the Alief Independent School District. I am heartbroken thinking of my friends and former students who are suffering through this tragedy. In an effort to directly support some people who will no doubt be in need when school resumes, my current school, eDCSD: Colorado Cyber has supported me in this fundraising effort. We would like to raise at least $1000, if not more, to support our Houston colleagues, and the students of the Alief Learning Center, my former school site in Houston. With the help of my colleague, Ms. MiQuisha Cargill, the ALC Principal, Ms. Mary Wilson, and the administrative team of the ALC, we will assess the needs of the students and staff and use this money to purchase gift cards to Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Lowes, and grocery store chains to help those in need start to rebuild their lives. I will be withdrawing the funds on September 15th so that I may purchase the gift cards to send to ALC the following week. I hope you will consider supporting the incredible staff of the ALC and those students and families who have been impacted by this catastrophic storm.
