EDIT 2: As of August 11, 2022, Finneas & Gingersnap are up for adoption now. See recent update post with adoption information. Let's get them their forever homes!
EDIT: As of June 26, 2022, I trapped 19 adult cats - 18 were fixed & vaccinated and released back into the yard. Some of the adults had procedures to help their eyes, or got meds for upper respiratory infections. 1 adult cat (Wheezy) was sadly too sick to save, so may he rest in peace. I found 10 kittens in the yard, who were all taken by Gable Park TNR. 2 of the kittens (Finneas & Gingersnap) are coming up for adoption very soon. Unfortunately, 3 of the other kittens passed from calici virus, which was running rampant in my backyard. It's hard for tiny kittens to fight that feline virus. The remaining 5 kittens also have calici virus, and are getting medical care. All the money raised here helps with every cat & kitten. There are 6 more adult cats in the yard who still need fixed. They are not seen as frequently, so they're harder to catch. But I keep trying, and will get TNR appointments for them as needed. I'm happy with the progress that I've made and I feel so much better knowing these kitties are getting proper care. Thank you to everyone who is helping with this!
Expenses paid so far = $2506.98
Here's the break down:
10 adult cats fixed, vaccinated, flea treatment, ear tipped (some needed meds for upper respiratory) at Helping Hands = $350
8 adult cats fixed, vaccinated, flea treatment, ear tipped and 1 adult cat euthanized at Pet Pantry = $405
Plus meds & surgical procedures for some at Pet Pantry = $60
2 kittens (Finneas & Gingersnap) eye drops from Helping Hands $10
2 kittens (Finneas & Gingersnap) vet visit/meds at West Lancaster Animal Hospital = $260.23
10 kittens getting vet care (meds, vaccinations, deworming, fixed, eye surgery for at least one kitten, food, litter) from Gable Park = $1140
Misc: kitten food while in my care (wet & dry), food & treats to put in the traps, kmr & baby food, stainless steel bowls for the colony cats to reduce spread of bacteria, disinfectant (because of presence of calici virus) = $281.75

People have been asking if they can help with my backyard cats, so I created this fundraiser. I have a backyard full of cats (if you know, you know), who I feed, fix, and take care of. I hope to move this year (still looking), and I'll feel better about leaving these guys behind if I can get as many fixed as possible before I go. Whether I stay or go, they still need fixed. This will only put a tiny dent in the backyard colony, but anything helps them.
I have weekly TNR (trap, neuter, release) appointments scheduled in March & April at Helping Hands For Animals. March 8, 15, 22, 29 and April 5, 12, 19, 26. One cat each week - totaling eight cats. You can sponsor a cat for $35 or chip in whatever you can. Even $5 helps! It costs $35 for one cat to get fixed, shots, and flea treatment.
I'm starting with the regulars who frequent my back porch. Ocho, Charlie, Sherby, Ora, Stormy, and Charlotte (pictured in my cover photo). There's a fluffy black & white kid, a tortoiseshell girl, and little black girl who pass by often too. I want to start with them, since they're usually outside my back door, waiting for breakfast. But I'll take whoever I catch! I'm hoping they can check Ocho's eye too.
After this round, I plan to make more appointments into May and June and fix as many of the crew as I can this summer.
Thank you for helping them! All money raised will go to the TNR appointments and food for the backyard colony.
If you have stray cats in your yard or neighborhood, get them fixed. It's the best thing you can do to reduce & control the cat population. Contact Helping Hands For Animals, Pet Pantry, or Humane League (all in Lancaster, Pa) for appointments (or google TNR clinics in your area). I believe all of the Lancaster clinics charge the same fee of $35 for TNR services.
