I'm Alicia and this GoFundMe is for my husband, Mike (56), who has been bravely battling end-stage pulmonary disease, and the harsh reality is that he urgently needs a double lung transplant.
We will soon start the journey of getting him approved for the transplant list at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.
As you can imagine, the costs associated with this lifesaving procedure are overwhelming.
The estimated expenses for the transplant, daily living, and necessary medical care are staggering, and they will continue to mount as we navigate this difficult journey.
There are many unforeseen costs that we will be responsible for, such as temporary lodging. We will be required to stay within 20 minutes of the transplant center for up to three months post-surgery. This cost will be in addition to our regular monthly expenses for our housing, transportation, insurance, food, and other necessities. Throughout this process, I will need to take unpaid FMLA so I can be Mike’s primary caretaker, adding another layer of financial strain.
We find ourselves in a situation that we never thought we'd face. Mike is a remarkably private person, and the thought of seeking help is daunting for him, but the weight of the financial burden is becoming unbearable.
We are an ordinary, hardworking couple just trying to make ends meet, with no safety net to fall back on, no savings or retirement funds to ease the mounting financial strain.
