Alicia's Memory

Alicia is a mother, daughter, sister, entrepreneur, activist and a ray of sunshine to so many. She has a loving heart and feels emotion so intensely, in a way most people will never understand. She stands up and is the voice for people who are afraid to speak for themselves. She has a vision of a world where people are more selfless and extend a hand to those in need. She shares so much love and has so many memories with more people than we will ever know. Alicia is one of the most caring and loving people to walk the face of this Earth and there are countless experiences we can all share to prove this.

Unfortunately, as with all light and beauty, there is a shadow realm. Alicia endured a lot of trauma in her life and struggled with her mental health. For all the good she brought into the world, she also felt immense pain, depression and fear. For all the love and support she provided others, she felt she had to carry her struggles on her own shoulders. She didn’t let others close enough to see the true turmoil brewing inside of her. She fought a long and strong war against mental illness but on Thursday, September 19, 2019 she lost the final battle.

You may have noticed I use the present tense in the first paragraph…This is because Alicia is still here with her three daughters, her family and her friends. She will be remembered for all her good and this light illuminates the shadows. We will not hide her mental illness or her cause of death, as these do not define who she is, but are symptoms of her trauma. Hiding is what causes so many people to feel they are alone in their struggle with mental health. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among people ages 10-34, 46% of these individuals were diagnosed while 90% of them showed signs of mental illness. NAMI reports indicate 1 in 5 adults experienced mental illness in 2018 and of these individuals, only 43% sought treatment. Please, if you are experiencing signs of mental health issues, reach out to those you love or to a professional. If someone you care about is showing signs of concerning behavior, reach out to them, even if you are afraid of backlash. Communication and support make a difference, it’s time to shed the stigma around mental health and always extend a hand to others in need.

Alicia’s memorial services will be held at Palm Downtown Mortuary (1325 N Main St, Las Vegas, NV 89101) on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at 11am. There will be a gathering afterward, more information to come. If you would like to assist in this time of need, please consider contributing to our family’s GoFundMe account. All funds will go toward funeral expenses, bills and her three daughters’ college funds. Thank you for your love and support in this time of mourning.

My my name is Nicholas Cruz Blevins, I am Alicia’s brother and I will be in charge of these funds. Thank you for your love and support.
