Alicia Cantu-Duval's Cancer Battle
Donation protected
My best friend, Alicia Cantu-Duval was diganosed with colon cancer in October 2018.
Beginning in June 2018, Alicia began having severe stomach cramps and abdominal pain. She was worked up for a stomach ulcer. At her insistence, after no improvement and conservative treatment (after many doctor visits), she demanded a CT scan be ordered. After a follow-up CT scan, PET scan, and colonoscopy, it was revealed in September that Alicia had Stage IV colon cancer.
Alicia has been unable to work since mid-September.
On October 17, Alicia had an extensive 14-hour surgery at St. John's Providence Hospital in Grosse Pointe, MI by Dr. Berri. So extensive, that doctors questioned after beginning the procedure whether they should even continue the surgery. Thankfully her surgeon, Dr. Berri did. What followed was an extensive surgery including hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), a total abdominal hysterectomy, a small bowel resection. a cholecystectomy, a splenectomy, a omentectomy, and a colectomy. Overwhelming to say the least, but ever the strong fighter we all know her to be, Alicia has continued to fight.
Alicia is to have a total of 12 chemotherapy treatments. After her first, she was hospitalized with uncontrolled pain. After her second chemotherapy treatment, she was found to have hydronehrosis and had to have a stent placed. She is now due to have her third chemotherapy treatment tomorrow, February 6th.
I saw Alicia on Monday, February 4th. She looked amazing! She was up and around and the Alicia I know. So full of life. She has her husband and primary caregiver Dan, her kids Lorenzo, Raquel, and Ciara, as well as her grandkids (who are her whole world) Luciano, Aaliyah, Aarianna, Monterio, stepdaughters Carmen Duval-Pratt, Gina Duval and Elena Duval, her sister Marta Sanchez, not to mention her other extended family and friends cheering her on.
I met Alicia when we worked together at State Farm in 1999. She is the greatest, funniest, and mot selfless person I know.
Despite all of the obstacles she has faced, with the help of God, and the support of her family and friends, Alicia is blessed. However, we need to help lessen the strain of finances and day-to-day expenses that she and Dan are facing.
Please show your support for Alicia's fight by donating whatever you can. No amount is too small. It will touch her heart. She has always put everyone else first. Even if you are unable to donate, she needs support and prayers at this very difficult time.
Thank you.
