Alicia Brandt, hardworking, great mom, and go-getter is an valuable part of the RE/MAX Elite family and proud member of Corpus Christi of Association of Realtors. So many of you have reached out about how you can help, so we thought this GoFundMe would be the best way to assist Alicia financially with medical expenses, basic household needs, and transportation to and from upcoming medical appointments. Alicia was involved in an accident on Sunday, April 18, 2021. Here's her story...
On Sunday I had been working on my office/guest room. A few months ago I moved into a new house and I have a separate building in the back for my office. Since everyone else in the house is organized it was time to start working on my office! I need to get work stuff organized!!!!
I was using a table saw to cut the paneling for the walls. Before wrapping up the night I wanted to finish one last section. I went to use the saw and trim a board I was working on and it must of kicked back on me. I cut two fingers entirely off.
I immediately applied pressure and put my hand in ice and then used my knee to lean on it. 911 was called, both fingers were put on ice and I was taken to Bay Area ER. There they determined SA university hospital was the best choice for me. I was helicopter Halo lifted to the hospital.
Through the night I waited for updates. After waiting through the night I was able to get scheduled for surgery for Monday morning. I was prepped and wheeled into surgery about 11:30am-12:00 Monday morning. The Dr. is one of the best hand plastic surgeons that has been practicing for decades.
After a 3 hour surgery I got an update.
The pointer and middle fingers on my left hand could not be saved. They end near my hand. My thumb has a big cut with stitches but should return to normal. My pinky finger was unharmed. My ring fingered suffered a lot of damage but is full in size. A bone was broke and all tendons cut, as well a some blood vessels. There is one remaining blood vessel.
They are hopeful that my finger will heal and gain function and feeling up to 70%. My biggest fear right now is that my finger could die. Please send positive thoughts for my poor ring finger!
I will be returning to SA for a follow up next week. I understand that in 6 weeks I should be able to expose my hand to all elements and do everything I can!
I am very grateful and appreciative to all the staff and those who have already reached out. My outlook is positive. I do find myself at times a bit nervous for when I see it but I know this will be fine.
This could have been a lot worse and this is a bump in the road today but overall a minor setback! Now to focus on my rehabilitation!
