My Mom, Alice Duncan was diagnosed with stage III ovarian cancer in December 2009, 17 months after her sister passed of the same disease. Being proactive, my Mom requested to be tested through a pelvic ultrasound in 2007. No news means good news right? Unfortunately my Mom did have a cyst on her ovary & wasn't informed until after diagnosis. Mom had a full hysterectomy & began chemotherapy treatments. Since she tested positive for the gene mutation, she opted to have a double mastectomy as well. Mom was cancer free until October 2012. She went through more extensive chemo & found another year cancer free. My Mom has now been battling this awful disease since October 2013, taking chemo for the past 3 1/2 years. You can imagine the emotional, physical and mental toll this has on someone. Then there are the medical bills.
My Dad, being 75 years old continues to work full time to provide for the family. However, he had a 6 inch tear in his rotator cuff and had to have surgery. He now takes physical therapy twice a week and Workman's Comp. continues to fight his case. My parents have had no income since February.
Mom's new chemo medicine is our next hope; however it is outrageously expensive. The CO-PAY is $3,500 a month & Mom is trying to get help from Medicare and the doctor's office to help lower the expenses. Any donation, big or small will be greatly appreciated by the Duncan family.
In the meantime, please continue to pray for comfort, strength, & healing. God bless.
