Help Alice Recover From a Broken Ankle
Donation protected
On a gorgeous, sunny November day; the heel of my boot caught on a rogue garden hose laying across an uneven sidewalk near my apartment. I tripped, and fractured my left ankle. Six weeks on crutches, followed by four weeks in a walking boot were physically, practically, financially, and emotionally difficult.
Despite having health insurance and reliable income, covering the out-of-pocket fees has been a struggle. These fees, combined with regular living expenses and a big increase in the cost of my regular medications, have drained my savings.
Additionally, I lost income from declining multiple holiday gigs and taking over a week off of teaching to rest.
Luckily, I have a community of family & friends that have helped with small expenses and provided invaluable emotional support. I'm also grateful to my student's parents who continue to go out of their way to accommodate my varying levels of mobility as I heal.
Your contribution will go directly toward the cost of physical therapy. Additionally, your contribution will help pay a portion of my annual self-employment taxes to The Man; as that money was used for medical expenses.
Here is a rough estimate of fees & lost income, directly due to this injury, totalling $4,733.
- Cabs to and from doctors: $590
- Crutches/Boot/other items for mobility: $215
- Imaging: $355
- Doctor Fees: $653
- Lost Income: $1,220
- Food/Medicine Delivery: $200
- Physical Therapy (estimated): $1,500
Thank you for reading my story, and for any kind of support you can offer. It means a lot to me
