As many of you may know or remember I have been training for the London Marathon for quite sometime now. I was meant to run the VIRGIN LONDON MARATHON 2020 which is now finally happening in October 2021. I am extremely grateful to those of you who sponsored me last time around. I am still running to raise money in aid of the UK charity Groundwater Relief based in Dartington in Devon which my sister Lucy worked for.
Groundwater Relief is a small charity with BIG ideas and even BIGGER achievements.
Groundwater Relief works to alleviate poverty by helping others to develop and manage groundwater resources. They provide technical hydrogeological support to humanitarian and development organisations across the globe (Oxfam, MSF, ICRC and IOM) through a membership of over 270 groundwater experts. They have worked in Bangladesh, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and remotely in Kenya and Afghanistan as well as having ongoing projects in Yemen and Malawi.
In an emergency situation, humanitarian workers, who are often required to undertake a multitude of different tasks under extreme pressure, rarely have specific knowledge about the groundwater resources which lie unseen and are often difficult to access without the correct skills and equipment.
Groundwater Relief deploys groundwater experts as part of a Rapid Response Unit to support humanitarian workers in the initial phase of an emergency. Groundwater Relief plays a key role in the management of groundwater resources in emergencies and they are currently raising money for specialist equipment to support their activities. The money raised will help their groundwater experts to site and construct successful and sustainable groundwater supplies as well as help with the development of an app to support an upgrade of the Pocket Dipper. GWR believes strongly that the future of the developing world lies within the hands of those who live there. Whenever possible, Groundwater Relief works in collaboration with local professionals.
Please help them raise the money required.
As a small, specialist charity they do not employ professional fundraisers or have departments focussed on funding opportunities. Instead, they put effort into supplying the rights skills and equipment in the right place at the right time. You can be completely sure that 100% of your donation will go towards Groundwater Relief and the equipment they need to manage groundwater resources in emergencies.

This is a cause that means so much to me and every donation will help them to continue their ground-breaking work.
