Alice Brennan-Uhas Cancer Fund :(

My old friend, Alice Brennan Uhas, who I have known since second grade, was diagnosed two weeks ago with colon AND rectal cancer; TWO different cancers at the same time. She has found herself on an unwanted and unexpected journey and is fighting for her life.

Alice in a nurse and worked in Radiation Oncology for many years. She’s well versed about cancer, how the system works, and wanted to choose a place for treatment that had the best continuity of care with state of the art treatments, producing the best possible outcomes. She had watched the system fail patients time and time again and was determined that wasn't going to happen to her.  She chose to go to Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Chicago. After a week of many tests and many specialist consultations she is  confident she has found her "Magic Kingdom" to treat her cancer.

Alice has come to a crossroads; she needs SIX WEEKS of DAILY chemo and radiation. This translates to six weeks away from home, living in a hotel, while she completes this first leg of her journey. After chemo and radiation, she will undergo surgery with additional chemo treatments. This is one long road.

The treatment is very aggressive, invasive and scary. She's chronicling her journey on FB, not only for herself, but for anyone else who may be going through the same or similar experiences.  She's always been an open book. :D

She has been struggling with whether or not she can continue her treatment at CTCA. The cost and strain on her family associated with being away from home for six weeks, on top of the insurance co-pays, medications, the chemo itself has caused her to rethink her plan.  She feels strongly that CTCA is the best place for her, but the financial burden is daunting.

I'd like to open this Go Fund Me account to, hopefully somewhat, lessen the stress of the mounting financial burden she is facing.  Hopefully this will help ease her mind and she can begin treatment CTCA, where SHE believes she will get the best continuity of care with the best possible outcome.

It boggles my mind that anyone would face not starting treatment simply because the insurance company fights whether or not you need the MRI or if they will pay for the medications needed. It’s CANCER – something we all fear.

Please help me help her. This could be any one of us at any time in our lives. No one ever expects it will happen to them. Neither did she... and it happened to her. In these circumstances, honestly, no contribution is too small. Let's chip in and ease some of the financial burden while our friend begins the fight of her life.

Thank you!
