Hi, my name is Samantha and I am the daughter of Harry and Alice Smith. My parents have been together for the last 29 years. My mother unfortunately passed away very unexpectedly on November 16th, 2023 after complications from valve replacement surgery. My father and I were beyond devastated and trying to navigate through this new life without her. My father had bypass surgery done on October 3rd, 2023 after he arrived to the hospital with his main artery in his heart 99% blocked, only a trickle of blood flowing through. He had a silent widow maker's heart attack in the emergency room of Jefferson Torresdale Hospital in Philadelphia. The doctors don't know how he even made it to the hospital, let alone survived it. On top of losing my mother, we also had to worry about my dad's health conditions. He had been in and out of the hospital to the rehabilitation facility since his first admission on September 23rd, 2023. He had been released from the hospital mid December and was adjusting well upon returning to the rehabilitation center. On Christmas Day, I received a call that he was being transported to St. Mary Medical Center due to respiratory distress. When I arrived there, I was informed that he had gone into cardiac arrest and was worked on in the parking lot of the nursing center for over 40 minutes but eventually got him back. In that time, they don't know how long he had been without adequate oxygen. While I was in the emergency room with him, he coded again. They were able to get him back within 2-3 minutes. Since then, we have been hoping for some neurological function to be shown but to no avail. My family and I have made the extremely difficult decision to end his suffering and remove him from life support. I am never one to ask for any kind of help (especially financial), but at this point I am desperately in need of it. These funds will go towards funeral expenses for my father when the time comes, as well as aiding my husband and I in keeping my childhood home in our possession as there is no will in place for either of my parents. I don't know any 25 yr old who expects to lose both of their parents less than 2 months apart, but I really didn't ever think I would find myself in this situation. Anything at all helps during this time, and I am beyond grateful for everyone who has sent their prayers and best wishes over the last few weeks.
