Alice Amber Williams, A Real Hero
Donation protected
Alice was loved by so many and will be missed tremendously. We (her family, friends, and school community) are hoping to raise money to properly honor this incredible little girl who was taken from us too soon.
After Alice's passing, I (Mrs. Nielsen) led a conversation with my second grade class where we all shared memories of Alice. Some made us laugh, others made us cry, and others left us feeling inspired.
One topic that kept coming up was our daily mile. During our "daily mile" time, students would walk/run for 15 minutes. Every lap the students complete, they get their card scanned to keep track of their miles for the year. Alice walked 13 miles this year.
Alice loved the daily mile and would work so hard to get one lap each day. After her lap, she would often be really tired and would want to sit by me and rest while I scanned everyone's cards. One day, she even got to help me scan and was so excited that she was in charge of scanning.
She would often say "I'm kinda tired, can I sit down?" But there was nowhere except the ground for her to sit. I remember telling her that we need to bring a chair out for daily mile so we both could rest. Alice loved the idea and replied "Yeah Mrs. Nielsen, then anybody could rest when they get tired." So, in honor of Alice we would love to:
- Purchase a red (her favorite color) butterfly bench and install it at our daily mile "rest spot."
- Plant a tree in honor of Alice next to the new butterfly bench.
- Purchase adaptive playground equipment to meet all needs during recess. Alice never wanted anyone to be left out. We would like to make sure everyone has access to our playground equipment.
Any donation amount or share of Gofundme page would be greatly appreciated.
Alice Amber Williams, 8, of Grand Junction, CO, passed away after a brave struggle with childhood cancer on December 12, 2023, at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Alice was born September 22, 2015, in Grand Junction during the final few hours of summer and before the first sunrise of fall. Alice was a proud 2nd grade Broadway Bear at Broadway Elementary, and served as an ambassador for the Morgan Adams Foundation, a non-profit that funds kids’ cancer research.
Alice was a kind, friendly, spirited, feisty, stubborn, and fiercely independent child, but above all funny and happy. She had a goofy sense of humor and brightened the days of so many, including complete strangers she would compliment. She liked amusement parks and heights, always wanting to get taller “next year” to ride the big rides. A favorite memory is riding the gondola and zipping down the mountain on the alpine coaster with her on her 8th birthday. She loved school (and school lunch), Happy Meals, strawberry shakes, and especially breakfast (pancakes and oatmeal with all the fixin’s). She enjoyed watching her favorite movies and cartoons, including Frozen, Encanto, and Bluey, as well as dancing to Taylor Swift songs. Her favorite color was red and she enjoyed cheering for “the good red team” – and sometimes the “orange team”. She liked animals and enjoyed walking her mutt, Mesa, and telling others about her pony, Blaze.
Alice has big plans for the future; she checked her calendar every day and was excitedly looking forward to... almost everything. She was lots of fun and we miss her terribly.
