This is Ali Colteryahn...the youngest child and only daughter of Jim & Michele Colteryahn. She is my daughter's best friend and her family means the world to us. On Wednesday, February 1st, Ali & Olivia were doing their all-time favorite activity, making the rounds in Ali's golf cart, getting Starbucks and riding around the Nocatee neighborhood visiting friends when every parent's worst nightmare happened. They were hit by a car. The golf cart flipped twice and while Olivia miraculously suffered minor injuries, Ali was thrown from the cart and suffered a fractured skull. What followed is a blur, a helicopter life-flighted her to Wolfson's Children's Hospital in downtown Jacksonville where she was in critical condition. By morning it was clear she needed surgery to relieve the bleeding and swelling in her brain. Surgery was performed by top-notch surgeons and saved her life. A titanium plate and screws. Bruising on her brain was discovered and it was made clear her recovery will be long and very hard.
Ali is a beautiful dancer, a sweet friend, generous to a fault (she gets that from her mom), funny and kind-hearted. She was a week away from a dance competition and two weeks away from the 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C. and in a split second her life and the lives of her entire family and everyone who loves her changed.
Ali's rehabilitation will be extensive and costly and her family should not have to worry about anything but the healing and recovery of their sweet girl.
Everyone has been asking about what they can do to help. This. This will help. Funding the very best care and rehabilitation. Please give if you can.
