Dear brothers and sisters in this journey:
Thank you so much for your support, kindness and love toward me and the people , land, and community we seek to protect and love so much.
I am reaching out to you because I have 10 days to register as many people to vote for the neighborhood council election. Poverty predators tied to private prisons, exploitative development, and environmental destruction have placed candidates against my re-election.
We have accomplished so much in our efforts in housing, feeding, educating, and healing the people for self-preservation and self-representation. I have done this by pulling together public resources to operate summer and after school educational and cultural educational programs for children K-12th (https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2020-09-01/black-and-latino-students-get-lessons-about-empowerment-at-freedom-school),
✅We reopened the Augustus Hawkins Nature Park to the public to halt its conversion to private forprofit development,
✅Provided City Rent Relief Assistance
✅ Provided community Eviction Self-defense, DACA Application filings,
✅ funded local nonprofits in bringing nutrition, food, and doctors to the hood! We Need all hands on deck.
We halted expanded storage warehouses, liquor licenses around youth frequented areas, predatory marijuana dispensaries, polluting gas stations, and unafforadble exploitative housing development from setting ground in South Central Los Angeles.
Indigenous peoples and our culture is under attack. Storage facility development plans are threatening our only cultural and market place for indigenous immigrants and communities who rely on it for our basic needs. My re-election will allow for indigenous peoples to continue having a seat at the table to preserve our local swap meet. We will continue using public policy and public health measures to protect our air, land, and culture! Under our leadership the Central Alameda Swap Meet will continue to host indigenous merchants, medicine, music, products, business and healing! We will continue to Defend and Sustain Swap Meet Cultural Vendors: https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2020-07-03/los-angeles-swap-meets-struggle-coronavirus-pandemic
My role as a former Ella Baker Trainer for the Children’s Defense Fund taught me to practice that Strong People don’t need strong leaders! We need us to share this fund, register stakeholders to vote, and continue freeing our resources to heal the land and people.
Our work has enlisted opposition and a threat to the communities we have worked so hard to heal and protect. Neighborhood Councils have no election oversight which allows undocumented, felons, non citizens, immigrants, and ANYONE to vote through “self affirmation” if they have a substantial interest in the neighborhood. ANYONE can donate to this fund by any amount. Developers have used this loophole in the past to "buy" neighborhood council elections because of the lack of campaign funding oversight.
You have a substantial interest in the neighborhood if you have volunteered, worked with, or donated to any of the aforementioned activities we have done for the neighborhood in Central Alameda or its people! Please register to vote! The Central Alameda Neighborhood Council is the only neighborhood council in the City of Los Angeles that is majority youth-led and undocumented led while effectively bringing resources, city and social services to stakeholders all over the City of Los Angeles with over 4 million residents and an 11 billion city budget. We are volunteer elected members of the board who rely on stakeholder support and volunteer all of our time, energy, and all types of labor to exercise our oversight and monitoring of city powers. We work multiple jobs and all of us on the board are students! We also understand that a city should work for all of its citizens, specially during a deadly pandemic!
Our efforts have made us targets of outside interests. Please donate as much or as little as you can to this 10 day campaign to defend our Nature Park, our children and youth, and the environment in Los Angeles we all love and care about.
Your donations will ensure our kids and youth have the educational and financial support to fend off developers and polluters who target poor Black and Brown neighborhoods.
