Donation protected
Our brother, Anthony was diagnosed with AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia) late July of 2019.
Anthony has undergone two Chemotherapy treatments at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and had been cancer free since leaving Cottage Hospital in late August.
Events turned on Friday November 29th and while down at City of Hope for routine tests, they found that the Cancer had returned.
All four of us (Laura, Frank, Russ, and me) have been tested to see if we qualified to match as Blood Stem Cell transplant donors. We all matched, which was a miracle in itself. The statistics are 1 in 4 with same parent siblings as a matching donor. The odds were with him. Russ has been chosen as the donor as he was a perfect match for Anthony.
The Bone Marrow Stem cell procedure is schedule for Monday December 16th, with donor collection for Russ and transplant/transfer Tuesday December 17th for Anthony. Please keep Anthony, and Russ in your prayers as they venture down this path.
Anthony will be headed to City of Hope in Duarte, CA for a duration of 100 days for Chemotherapy and full body Radiation therapy and the Blood Stem Cell transfer. He will need his family by his side. While he does have medical insurance, their are other expensives that we are incurring.
A Family member must be with him at all times while he is at City of Hope.
We are all going to schedule weeks, and weekends when we can be with him. This will take us away from our jobs and families.
We are asking for any donation big or small to help with lodging, gas (back and forth), meals, time off work to be with him.
As a Donor Russ does not get paid any disability or sick pay. He will have to be out of work for approximately two weeks to recover from the Bone Marrow donation process.
We thank you in advance for your continued support and prayers for our brother Anthony. Please continue to pray for him as he battles this awful disease.
