Alfie’s inflatable 5K run for Diabetes UK

Hi, I’m Tasha Alfie’s mum.
The end of May, start of June 2020 our lives changed forever. Alfie collapsed at home and an ambulance was called. It was during lockdown and it was a very scary and uncertain time.
Alfie was rushed into hospital, when arrived I watched nurses and medical stuff swarm around Alfie connecting tubes and wires all over him and the doctor calmly walked over to me and said that he would put his life savings on the test results showing that Alfie had type 1 diabetes! His blood sugars was 38, he was suffering severely from a DKA, and if we didn’t get him to the hospital that day. He wouldn’t have made the night!
They saved my little boys life and I will forever be in their debt.
In the 4 years Alfie has been diabetic, we have had incredible support. Alfie is now using CGM dexcom G6 and an Omnipod 5 this takes Alfie’s glucose reading every 5 minutes and the pod gives Alfie the insulin he requires. This pump has been life changing for Alfie and gives him more flexibility. It allows Alfie to still live the life he wants and stops the diabetes from controlling his life.
Technology and research has advanced so much that it’s giving children and Adults more freedom to live their lives the way they want.
Alfie has been supported through Diabetes UK by peer support groups that have been set up for children. Alfie has taken part in a cooking class at Gordon Ramsey restaurant and is taking part in an escape room in the summer holidays. This allows children to share stories and support to each other and shows them they are not alone.

Money raised will be a little something to say Thank you. It will also allow them to hold future events to support children and adults with Diabetes and to continue research into understanding and combating the illness.

I am unbelievably proud of Alfie, he’s taken his diagnosis step by step. It’s not been plain sailing but Alfie has dealt with his diagnosis very well we will always be by his side.

If you’re still reading, thank you. Alfie will be running a 5k inflatable run with his dad to help raise money for Diabetes uk. If you can donate to this wonderful charity thank you
