Alexx’s Life Changing Transition Expenses
Hello there and thank you for taking the time to look at my fundraiser!
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Alexx Abreu and I am 29. I identify as FtM or Female to Male Transgender.
I started my medical transition April 21, 2011 and my life has changed for the better since. In 2013 I was given the opportunity to have “Top Surgery” or a double mastectomy and the weight of the world was quite literally lifted from my chest. I knew then, that for myself, I still had one more major step I needed to complete, to FEEL complete. To feel in line with my mind and body and that was getting “bottom surgery”.
In the last 8 years, the medical advancements have been far enough for me to feel more then mentally ready to take that step. In July of 2020 I reached out to the Buncke Clinic in SF and inquired about what steps needed to be taken to move forward with an RFF (Radial Forearm Free-flap) Phalloplasty. Over the last 9 months I completed hair removal steps as well as acquiring the appropriate letters from doctors in order to get things approved.
This morning I tentatively (awaiting insurance approval) scheduled my stage 1 surgery for APRIL 28th 2021. JUST 28 DAYS AWAY! I honestly am so surprised but so so excited and ready to get things moving!
With that being said, I have funds I have been saving and preparing for this moment but I was being more realistic and expecting this to happen in 6 months to a year and to have more time.
Stage 1 of the surgery, they will take a full graft of my left forearm to create the phallusand then a split thick graft of my right thigh to help fill in the space. There is so much more beyond that that goes into the magic of this surgical procedure but for me to explain it would not do it justice.
This first stage will require me to stay in the hospital for 5 days and then stay local in the SF area for another 4 weeks after. I will be hiring help for the first few weeks to help me get on my feet and take care of my medical needs while I am in town (thank gosh for framily❤️)
I guess what I am getting at is I could really use your help to make this happen. Living in the Bay Area for a month, health care assistance, travel, medical supplies, prescriptions, and normal bills like rent are going to pile up fast.
Any help you can offer, a share, encouraging words or a dollar, will go so far. My dreams are happening, they are no longer dreams but a reality.Your help and participation in making this my reality is more then I could ever ask for ❤️
Thank you- Alexx Abreu
