Alex's Medical & Recovery Support
On June 27th at about 8:30am Alex was in a downhill mountain biking accident that resulted in a serious spinal cord injury. His injury consisted of a fracture to C-4, spinal cord compression (see picture) and a loss of mobility throughout his body. He is currently in the hospital recovering from the accident and his first surgery. Alex's doctors are hopeful that he will make a full recovery and have full mobility once again. It will be a long and painful recovery but Alex has a great positive attitude and is ready to tackle any challenge that comes his way.
He is scheduled to have another surgery this Wednesday 7/8/20. This surgery will place a mesh type plate and screws from vertebrae C-3 to C-5, and this will help stabilize vertebrae C-4. This addition of hardware will mean that Alex will have limited range of motion in his neck permanently (more on this as recovery happens).
A little about Alex......
Alex lives in Anchorage, Alaska with his wife, Alison, and their two dogs, Margot and Bear. After high school he joined the Navy and served on the USS Enterprise and USS Porter for 5 years. Alex remained in Virginia after his time in the Navy and worked as a civilian on government contracts, and for a moving company in Richmond, VA. He also met his future wife there, and started his career in Motion Design. They lived in Seattle for 3 years, where Alex acquired both freelance and agency experience in the field. He now enjoys working as a Senior Motion Designer for Essence Global. When he's not busy working, he enjoys many outdoor activities, like hiking, biking, climbing and camping. Alex has 3 nieces and 1 nephew who think he is the funniest and most knowledgeable anime expert in the world. I am honored that Alex is my little brother and hope that by creating this fundraiser we can show Alex the love and support he needs to make a full and strong recovery.
With the generous donations made we will be helping Alex and Alison pay for the mounting medicals bills and to get him into a specialized recovery/rehabilitation center.
