If you’ve had the pleasure of knowing Alex, you know what a sincere, genuine, kind and brave person he is. In early December, Alex had strep throat and a fever that would not go away, despite antibiotics. It was clear his immune system was not reacting properly. After spiking a very high fever, he was rushed to the ER. Blood tests showed extremely low counts across the board indicating something serious was going on. Alex was transferred to UCHealth Anschutz. After dozens of tests, a lumbar puncture and bone marrow biopsy, he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphatic Leukemia, one week before Christmas. At 27 years old, he was told he has blood cancer. A complete shock to all of us. He immediately began chemotherapy and has responded well, but the road to recovery is a long one. He has since started an intense chemotherapy regimen four days a week. This will continue for a while, and if all goes well he will move into a maintenance routine, which will last for a few years. As Alex says, it’s a marathon- not a sprint.

Our brother is a fighter, he always has been. He’s the strongest person we know. We have no doubt he will come out of this on top. It took lots of convincing, but he finally agreed to allow us to fundraise to help pay for his medical bills and treatment, but only on one condition- we promise to donate any remaining funds to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) and the Small Choices Foundation. Typical Alex, giving to others when he is most in need. We hope to raise enough money so Alex does not have to stress over his medical bills or any medical needs that may pop up along the way, as this journey is unpredictable.
