As many of you know, 2 years ago our entire world came crashing down when we were told our incredible son, brother and uncle has Acute lymphoblastic Leukaemia.. he had only turned 18 less than a month ealier. We had no idea what this meant for him or our family but we did know we had a huge fight ahead of us.
The last 2 years have been full of fear, sickness, and painful procedures for Lexi, all to be faced with an awful relapse before even completing the maintenance phase of treatment. Unfortunately, after a failed round of treatment and a very very sick 20 year old the only next option was to look at interstate options to save his life.
The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is a state of the art treatment centre located in Melbourne. We were told by Lexi's incredible team here at the Royal Adelaide Hospital that there was a treatment option there that he would potentially be eligible for, at this stage time was running out and we needed a plan to get him there. His team worked tirelessly to get him well enough to travel and sure enough last week he managed to get over there to start this next stage of his journey.
We are so lucky to have this option of treatment for Lex, however the next phase requires him to be in Melbourne for a minimum of 6 weeks, he isn't able to be in public and will be going for daily treatment at the Peter Maccallum Centre. For my mum, this means 6 weeks of hotels, ubers to and from hospital, food and all other costs of living interstate for that long as well as still having to pay for life back in Adelaide. It also means 6 weeks away from family and loved ones, alone in a completely different state away from home. It's going to be a long and hard journey.
Although we are not a family that ever likes reaching out for help, it has gotten to a point where we need to lean on our village for support in what is going to be an extremely difficult time. This treatment will make Lexi very sick again and I would love to be able to ease any additional financial pressures during this time and to help get him back to Adelaide to continue his fight, hopefully in SA this time!
Every single dollar helps on this journey, however we know everyone has their own struggles so there is never any obligation to donate, even just sharing this raises awareness! Any additional money made after this Melbourne stay will be donated directly to the Peter MacCallum Centre and thank you all so much in advance, we are eternally grateful ❤️
