Alexis's Heart Heroes

My name is Ashley Meige, I am single mother to my amazing 11 year old daughter Alexis. A few months ago she collapsed at home and has since been seeing a cardiologist. After all of the diagnostic imaging, the doctor diagnosed Alexis with a rare condition of Anomalous Aortic Origin of a Coronary Artery. Her right coronary artery is narrowed at the origin and is not anatomically in the correct location. It is coming from the left sinus instead of the right. She is scheduled to undergo open heart surgery on January 2nd 2024. She will be hospitalized for a week or longer after surgery. The healing process will take about a month. Alexis is a happy, smart, and loving kid. She is an animal lover and adores her dog and cat. It breaks my heart that she has to go through something like this. She loves to swim and play volleyball with her friends. She has been practicing her flips and balancing hoping to one day join gymnastics. This condition has restricted her to do any exerted physical activity. The surgery will allow her to eventually participate in competitive sports and prevents the risk of her having a cardiac arrest.
