Help Lexi get multiple surgeries to help her Cerebral Palsy
Donation protected
Hi friends. Our names are Linda and Nick and we are fundraising for our beautiful daughter Alexis. She is 8 years old and has right-side hemiplegic cerebral Palsy. Unfortunately when Alexis was born, due to a doctor's negligence at birth, he caused her to have a stroke and pass away but luckily she was brought back to life. She was taken from us to NICU in another hospital where she spent the first 2 weeks of her life. The stroke caused her to have cerebral palsy on her right side. Her whole entire life since she was 12 weeks old has consisted of weekly physio and Occupational therapy sessions, She wears AFOs (ankle foot orthotic leg braces )daily, orthopedic shoes that require a 2cm height difference in the right one, hand splints, night splints, serial casting, regular gait analysis at the hospital, many, many hospital appointments, botox injections in her arm, wrist and leg, hand surgeon appts, leg surgeon appts, days off school and now has a 2cm leg discrepancy which is increasing as she grows. Now she needs surgery on her tendons in her leg her wrist and her fingers and arm, and calf lengthening as well as the tendon transfers and lengthening in her arm, wrist and fingers as her knuckles have started to collapse on all of her fingers. Basically surgery on her whole right side.
The surgery in America is life-changing. It is called selective percutaneous myofascial lengthening and Selective dorsal rhizotomy surgery and will give her the chance to walk on her heel after we retrain her on how to walk after surgery. The surgery, with intense physio and a mollii suit with electrodes that stimulate the nervous system, will absolutely change her life and will give her the opportunity to live a (close to typical) life and help with her dream of going to the Paralympics (and becoming a country singer).
This has not only affected her physically but emotionally affected her and is extremely tough when she is excluded by other children at school for not being fast enough and not being able to keep up. It affects all of us and also affects us financially as Linda (mum) can't work full time due to all of Lex's appointments. Therefore the past 9 years have been extremely hard as Linda has lost the opportunity to be able to work full-time.
The money will be used for getting the family to America and accommodation whilst over there, it will cover operation costs, walking aid equipment and rehabilitation in America. When Lex returns she will need to relearn how to walk again and need months of rehabilitation. It will also go towards bills that will need to be paid along the way while she is recovering and getting taken care of by her family..
No amount is too small. Every single dollar will help. Thank you so much for helping our daughter to have a better life❤️❤️
