I don't really know how to start this…
I got a phone call from my sister early morning on Friday July 1st, 2022. She usually sleeps in so I knew this was strange. As I answered, I heard her strained and scared voice, unaware of the horrible news she was going to tell me. Her doctor had just told her they found cancer in her upper abdomen. We both sobbed and tried to find words to comfort each other, even though I should’ve been the only one to do the comforting.
She had this pain in her body for a while and when she finally went in to get it checked out, I don't think anyone of us anticipated it to be cancer. That alone was hard news to hear. Immediately, our family talked about ways to encourage her and help her get her health better. We had a plan, but life sometimes has plans of its own.
She had wanted to come home to rest and be comfortable, but her pain was getting worse and harder for her to bear. She ended up back in LA+USC hospital to get help and more testing done. As they did what they could, more complications came to the surface. She wasn’t eating or getting any sleep. Her kidneys were not working correctly and failing to cleanse her body of toxins. She was put on dialysis but she wasn’t showing any real signs of improvement.
Unfortunately in the days to come, multiple organs began failing and due to the size of the tumor, there was nothing more the doctors could do. On Thursday July 21st at 11:03am, Alexis took her last breath.
All this took place within 20 days, but her body was fighting a lot longer than that. She was tired and in pain. Walking and breathing became harder for her each day. We prayed over her for full healing in her body, and as hard as it is to accept that she's not here, she has that now. She is whole and in peace. Her body is healed and I believe she is in Heaven resting and watching over us.
This time has been so difficult and heartbreaking for our family. We're still so in shock, this all progressed so fast. Alexis was a rock and the kind of person who loved passionately. She was an amazing Daughter, Sister, BEST AUNTIE, Cousin and Friend. We can’t imagine our lives without her and there won’t be a day that goes by that we don’t remember her or think of her. There’s so much to say about her. There's so much more to her story.
We are asking our friends and family for help financially as we plan her memorial service and all the expenses that come ahead. If you are unable to give, we completely understand. We want to thank everyone who has prayed for us or has reached out to send us your love. We cannot do this alone. We will see her again, that is our hope, that’s what we stand by.
Thank you again.
