Alexis needs a Bone Marrow transplant
Donation protected
Alexis is 12 years old and needs a bone marrow transplant.
Alexis needs a Bone Marrow transplant so he can get healthy and have a better quality of life.
Alexis: When he was a baby, he was diagnosed with Sickle cell anemia which is an inherited red blood cell disorder.
“His symptoms started around 3 years old,” said his mom.
At 4 years old he had a surgery due to Organ damage.
Two weeks after, they had to remove his gallbladder due to gallstones.
Then he had several blood transfusions.
A couple of years ago he had 2 brain surgeries after having several seizures due to a lack of oxygen in his brain.
Alexis is a trooper!
The Medical staff from UNC Chapel Hill have recommended a bone marrow transplant. Alexis’ brave 14 year old brother, Antonio, will be the donor.
This surgery is a treatment that replaces unhealthy marrow with healthy marrow from his AMAZING brother. “He is going to be born again,” explained mom.
The siblings will require 100%, 24 hours a day care from their parents for a long period of time.
Hero: Antonio, 14, will be the bone marrow donor for his brother Alexis.
Alexis’ family needs…
Both parents will have to stop working in order to provide around the clock care for both Alexis and Antonio. Funds raised will help cover rent, utility bills and other family living expenses for a period of three months to a year.
It takes from 6 months all the way up to a year after a bone marrow transplant for blood counts and the immune system to fully recover.
Please do what you can to support this wonderful family in their effort to help their brave boys recover!
The family needs nearly $40,000 for about 12 months, the time they will need to take care of Alexis and help him and his brother Antonio get through the surgical procedure and their long recovery. The last thing we want for this family is for them to worry about any daily needs during this difficult time.
Alexis and Antonio are both former Kingswood Elementary students. Staff began a fundraiser for Alexis offering gnomes created by the Kingswood staff and family.
HOW TO HELP?
By purchasing a gnome crafted by the staff/family at Kingswood Elementary School in Cary.
#gnomes4alexis
The family is currently $10,000 away from their goal for the cost-of-living expenses post-surgery.
Please consider purchasing a gnome for a suggested donation of $10 per gnome (or any amount you wish to donate to help them out).
Whatever donation you can offer at this time would be greatly appreciated by all who know and love Alexis!
Another way to help is sharing this with family and friends!
