Hi everyone,
I'm reaching out with a heavy heart and a lot of anxiety. My roommates and I are being forced to move out of our current home much sooner than expected, and we’re struggling to come up with the funds to secure a new place in time.
We’ve been living in a rental that belongs to a family friend—so there was never a formal lease in place. Recently, our landlord informed us that they need to sell the house in order to purchase another home out of state. Although we were originally told we’d have more time, we’ve now been given a final move-out date of April 25, leaving us with very little time to find and afford a new place.
What makes it even harder is that this decision was influenced by a visit from the landlord’s realtor, who claimed the home was in poor condition. Despite sending the landlord clear photo evidence that things are in order, the decision to move forward with the sale—and to have us out early—hasn't changed.
To make matters worse, our landlord is still expecting us to pay April's rent. I understand their position, but paying rent this month would completely wipe out what little money I’ve managed to save—leaving me with nothing to put toward moving expenses or a deposit.
I’m not asking for much—just enough to help cover my portion of a security deposit for a new place. We’re doing everything we can to find the most affordable rental possible. There are four of us, so my share should be around $500 or less. However, the rental market is moving fast, and sometimes the more expensive homes get back to us first. If that's our only option, we’ll have no choice but to accept what’s available in order to stay off the streets.
I’ve never been in a position like this before, and it’s incredibly humbling to ask for help. But if you can spare anything at all, it would mean the world to me. Every dollar counts and brings us one step closer to having a safe place to go before April 25.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading, sharing, or donating.
With gratitude,
Alexis Smith
