On February 16, 2017, 19 -year-old Alexis was diagnosed with Lymphoma (Stage 3) and 3% Leukemia in his bones. They discovered a tumor in his stomach and several small tumors in his chest that were causing him severe pain and agony.
Alexis started his journey on January 23, 2017 -2 weeks before he turned 19. Before being diagnosed he went to the ER 4 times during his Christmas Break, where doctors prescribed him anitbiotics for a "stomach flu." After numerous tests, the doctors confirmed that he indeed did not have a stomach flu, but he actually had several cancerous tumours in his stomach and chest. Fast forward to today, Alexis has been receving chemo treatments and we have seen major improvement in the tumors in his body (chest and stomach)!
The doctors and staff at Miller's Children’s Hospital have been amazing and accommodating in making Alexis feel positive and comfortable. We are excited (and nervous) to start moving forward with the next big step in his journey to recovery at UCLA.
The next steps include prepping for his transfer to UCLA for his Bone Marrow Transplant. Receiving a bone marrow transplant will require Alexis to get radiation, undergo the transplant, and then be quarantined for 3 months after the transplant. Some minor side effects include: loss of any remainder hair (if any), fatigue, nauseas, vommitting, mouth sores and the list goes on. His immune system will be extremely weak from the transplant and we will have to be very caution, because any minor infection can be deadly for him. Meaning he will not be able to step outside during this 3 month period.
Alexis and his family are so thankful for the support, love, and gifts that have poured in. Our family is very appreciative for any donations to help cover the costs of his medical needs. Any donations will help out Alexis during chemotherapy, radiation, and the long extensive trip he has to recovery.
We are all in this together. We love you Alexis <3
