Alex Fresnoza's Memorial Fund

Donation protected

We are deeply saddened to announce that Alex Fresnoza lost his battle with ALS on October 23, 2014. He was a humble and simple man. His passions in life were his family, friends, fishing and bowling. Shortly after his wife's sudden passing in 2009, he was diagnosed with ALS. He worked as a laborer for the City and County of San Francisco for 29 years before he was forced to retire because of his condition.

He had a personality that could light up a room. Always cracking jokes and always friendly. Even during his fight with ALS everyone that met him since praised his positive outlook and attitude.

Unfortunately, most of the funds he had went to paying for his care. He did not have any life insurance and his pension from the city is going back to the state since he was misinformed and "checked the wrong box." He could not fix it when he tried.

We are raising funds to pay for the cost of the celebration services and burial. We estimate the cost to be $13,000 but are just trying to raise at least $4,000 on gofundme.com. We ourselves are gathering as much as we have but we still need a little help. We hope that many of those who enjoyed his company and friendship would like to participate even if it's just $1. If we are able to meet our goal I hope you still will contribute as it will reduce the burden on our family.

His last wishes were for all of us to celebrate his life and to be buried with his wife. We are planning to celebrate his life with a memorial on the 4th and 5th of November. Burial will on the 6th at Cypress Lawn in Colma.

The whole family thanks you for your support and loving involvement. We hope to reach our goal in a week before the services commence. No donation is too small. $1 will help and we appreciate anyone who wants to be a part of our tribute and lasting memory of Alex.

With heartfelt thanks and loving appreciation,
The Fresnoza, Daguman and Alejandro Family

For those who are unsure of what this incurable disease is, I will provide a brief description from the www.alsa.org website.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed.
