Alexa's Kidney Transplant Recovery

Donation protected

Hi! If you know me, you know that my medical history is pretty extensive. For those who don't know, after being diagnosed with Lupus at the age of 13, my kidneys started to fail when I was in high school. Shortly after graduating, I was told I would need to start dialysis and eventually, need a kidney transplant. After being on dialysis for a year and a half, I was able to get a transplant thanks to my amazing dad. Unfortunately, due to my immune system being so low, I contracted a virus that would not go away and due to the very strong medications used to treat that virus, seven years later, I am now in need of another kidney transplant. I have been on dialysis now for the last 12 months while also working a full-time job. Thanks to my amazing aunt, I will be undergoing my second kidney transplant on July 13th. There are no words to express how thankful I am to my aunt for being so selfless and donating to me. I'm anxious, nervous, excited and so many more emotions that it's hard to put into words. Due to my transplant, I will be out of work for a few months due to continuous lab and follow up visits which is why I decided to create this page. I'm not one to usually ask for help but as this is my second go around, the financial aspect is seemingly larger. There will be multiple medication costs as well as transportation costs as we will have to go back and forth to Emory multiple times a week. I am extremely thankful for all of the support I have received and will continue to receive. Even if you can't contribute financially, thank you for reading my story and prayers are greatly appreciated :)
