Alexandrov Ensemble Memorial Stone

Let’s remember those who perished in the fight against international terrorism.

As many lovers of great music know, on Christmas Day 2016 an airliner carrying the entire Alexandrov Music & Dance Ensemble, relief workers and others to Syria crashed, killing everyone onboard. Since then, the Schiller Institute Chorus has held a memorial ceremony each year at the Tear Drop Memorial in Bayonne, NJ, a 10 story tall monument by sculptor Zurab Tsereteli dedicated “To the Struggle Against World Terrorism” that was given to the United States as an official gift from the Russian government following the 9/11 attacks. These ceremonies have variously included the participation of representatives of the UN Missions from Russia and Syria, Color Guards of the NYPD and the Bayonne FD, elected officials, American artists and others.

On this 5th anniversary we are planning a broader ceremony on the morning of December 27th which would include dedicating a permanent stone and plaque there memorializing both that tragic event and the solidarity of the United States and Russia in the fight against international terror. Anyone interested in helping with the project can go to https://www.sinycchorus.com/ or https://www.gofundme.com/f/alexandrov-ensemble-memorial-stone.

Attached is a video of a 2019 ceremony held at the Tear Drop which really explains why this is so important. It can also be seen here: https://youtu.be/yjYXFxcFAtg.
