Hi, my name is Alexandra Cohen, and I’m 22 years old. A few years ago, I was a student and dancer, training hard and preparing to audition for professional opportunities. This all came to a screeching halt when my life took an unexpected turn when a rapid decline in my health completely changed everything.

I now live with multiple complex, chronic illnesses that affect me every single day. From severe chronic pain and seizures to anaphylactic reactions and weekly ER visits, my symptoms are unpredictable and often disabling. I now rely on both a G -tube (feeding tube that goes directly to my stomach) and J-tube (a feeding tube placed directly into my small intestine) to receive all of my nutrition and an implanted chest port for daily hydration and medications. I spend a lot of time attending medical appointments, undergoing procedures, and managing emergency hospitalizations. As you can imagine, insurance only covers so much and the financial burden of ongoing care has become overwhelming for me and my family. It has become incredibly difficult to maintain financial stability. This burden has placed significant strain on my family, both emotionally and financially.
