Help us bring baby Zane home soon..

Zane was born with Infant Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS)  due to prematurity.
Last May 12, i went in for a checkup because of extreme  edema on both of my legs coupled with uncontrolled high blood pressure, and a sharp pain at the upper right stomach just below the rib cage that won't go away for a few weeks already. My OBGyne suspected it could be HELLP. HELLP syndrome is a life-threatening pregnancy complication usually considered to be a variant of preeclampsia. Both conditions usually occur during the later stages of pregnancy, or sometimes after childbirth. The most common reasons for mothers to become critically ill or die are liver rupture or stroke (cerebral edema or cerebral hemorrhage).  Most often, the definitive treatment for women with HELLP Syndrome is the delivery of the baby.

H -(hemolysis, which is the breaking down of red blood cells)
EL - (elevated liver enzymes)
LP - (low platelet count)

At only 30wks gestation, Zane had to be delivered via emergency Caesarian. 9weeks earlier than his due date (July 25, 2017), cutting short his critical developments.
I never get to see or hold Zane until after several days. I didn't know he only measured 14 inches in length and weighed 640grams (which later went down to 565g as he double his effort to sustain breathing). We also don't get to hear him cry coz of the tubes and the wires that monitors his vital signs. Touching him is like a sin because of  fear that he might get an infection. I feel sorry that i couldn't hold him inside a bit longer to allow him to complete his developments.
Having a baby born with Respiratory Distress Syndrome is like gambling. There is no guarantee and it is quite expensive. Babies born with RDS requires specialized machines, oxygen, and lots of laboratory testing to ensure they stay infection-free. In the Philippines, only a few hospitals get access to higher doses of medicines that could fight infection. The government-owned hospitals that are capable of those treatments are located in other provinces and the waiting list is too long.
Holding on to our faith, Rico and I decided to let Zane stay at the current hospital and take the risk because 1. Our savings have all been spent. The hospital bill is piling up and we could no longer keep up with the needed supplies and medicines if not for the support from family and friends 2. Transferring to a different facility requires deposits and daily costs are way higher 3. There is no available slot in the nearby hospitals that has access to the medicines 4. The proximity of our house to the hospital is only a 15-min drive.

Now at 34 weeks and by God's grace, Zane stays infection-free and promises to stay fearless and tough throughout the course.  He is feeding on breastmilk and weighs 695 grams. Still far from our target weight of at least 1800grams but we will get there! Zane still needs to stay at the hospital for a little more than a month to pack on some pounds, continue his medications, and undergo a few more tests.
Love and prayers from family&friends keep our hopes up. And we count on God's provisions for our daily expenses.

Whatever help you can give will surely go a very long way. Help us to give our little warrior a chance to see the world and live in it. God bless you thousandfolds more.
