Alexander's Legacy

Donation protected

Hi Everyone,

My name is Andrew and my wife's name is Sarah, on the 24/05/17 my wife gave birth to our beautiful son Alexander John Michael Manganas. Unfortunately Alexander was only able to spend a few brief moments on this earth and passed shortly after.

We were able to spend every moment of his short life holding him and telling him how much we loved him and that everyone, although not being able to meet him also loved him. He didn't get the chance to leave a legacy on this world as so many of us are able to do.

The purpose of this fundraising is to allow Alexander to leave a legacy, I am trying to raise funds to allow for the donation of Cuddle Cots to hospitals that need them and then the remainder of the money that is left over will be donated to genetic research organisations, such as "Jeans for Genes".

If I can I would like to take a moment to explain who I am and who my wife is, we are both normal people who have had a bit of a rough trot recently, we got married in 2013 and then only 15 months later, my wife ended up in hospital suffering from 3rd degree burns to a significant portion of her body. It took us approximately 6 months to try and get back to normal life, but as many people would know it is easier said then done. We commenced trying to have a child and took us over 2.5 years for Sarah to fall pregnant, it was glorious news and we were on cloud nine. After doing our routine 12 week scan, we were advised that Alexander could potentially have a genetic issue and may not survive, this took us from cloud nine back down to earth and now praying that our little boy could fight through his problems. At 19 weeks, to our surprise and the doctor's surprise Alexander was doing great and there was no signs of the issue still present. After 25 weeks things started to get complicated, we had to spend 2 days a week getting checked as it looked like he was going to come early, after week 29 Alexander wasn't moving as much and a scan picked up that fluid was starting to build in his chest. Sarah was able to bring him into the world whilst his little heart was still beating and the doctors advised that there was nothing that could be done.

This has nothing to do with raising money for me or my wife, although we are going through a rough time, we will be fine. The single greatest thing that helped us to get through this time was a "cuddle cot", for those of you that do not know what a cuddle cot is, it is a special cot that allows the families of stillborn babies and babies that passed early to spend time with them to get to meet them and say their goodbye's. Not every hospital has one and I can't imagine getting through this tough time without it. We would love to also donate some money to Jeans for Genes to allow research to be done to try and come up with some solutions to genetic problems that could cause babies to pass away early like our little Alexander.

It would be great if we can hit our target in time for Jeans for Genes day which is the 4th of August. This fundraiser will allow Alexander to leave a mark on the world that he left behind.

I apologise for writing such a long story but I just want people to know that my intentions are genuine and that we want to help other families that may be faced with the same situation.

Love forever and always
Alexander, Andrew and Sarah Manganas.
