My name is Alexander Lacayo and I am a Boy Scout with Troop 97 in Austin, Texas. I am in te process of working towards my Eagle Scout rank.
My Eagle Scout project is to create a Prayer Garden and Statue at the front of our church. I will be erecting a 7-foot statue of St. Vincent de Paul, our parish saint, installing pollinator-friendly flowering plants, laying down river rock and stepping stones and placing benches where people, especially older parishioners, may gather, pray, or rest.
Saint Vincent de Paul Parish is my home – it is where I have grown up; it's where Bishop Danny gave me my first communion, where I attend Mass, and go to Scout Troop meetings every week. Father Ed, our pastor, has known me since I was a little kid. I have been a student at Holy Family Catholic School since kindergarten and am now a Sophomore at St. Dominic Savio High School next door. I feel honored and blessed to give back to my community with this project.
My goal is to complete this project in time for it to be dedicated on November 1, 2019 – All Saints' Day. I needed to raise $8,000 to cover the costs of the hand-made statue and garden materials. Due to the generosity of family, friends and parishioners, I have currently raised over $7,200 (only $800 short) of my total fundraising goal.
