Paradise Lost: Newlyweds Lose Home

They say the first few years of marriage are the hardest, but this tragedy brings a whole new meaning to that…
Alex & Emily Groh loved the beautiful town of Paradise. Alex grew up there and Emily fell in love with it the first time he took her there to meet his family. It was no surprise that they decided to get married in the nearby forest a little over a year ago. There they created a charming newlywed nest in a cozy house surrounded by beautiful pine trees -- the perfect reflection of their personalities and their love.
The couple had barely begun to build their lives together when the Camp Fire destroyed everything: not just their home, but the entire town. Paradise is completely wiped off the map. No warnings or evacuation orders came that morning of November 8. They barely had time to grab anything as they fled for their lives.
They even had to leave one car behind -- and all of us who love them are glad that they did because we wouldn’t have wanted either of them to have been alone in the terror that their escape route became: five hours on a small, gridlocked road, surrounded by flames and exploding houses, calling family to say what they thought might be their final "I love you"s until cell service was lost, singing hymns and praying to comfort each other.
They are still so shaken up by what has happened that it’s hard to even process what their needs are. We know that insurance won't begin to cover the scope of it, so let’s show them how much they’re loved by coming alongside them as friends and family with whatever we can.
Let’s help them rebuild their lives together.
