Alexa's Mandarin Studies in Taiwan

I was accepted to study Mandarin this Summer in Taiwan with CIEE/Global Navigators, an organization that allows high school students the opportunity to study abroad. This program will be a 4-week language immersion experience in Taipei starting on July 8th, 2023. For those of you that don’t know, I have been studying and fascinated with the Mandarin language and Chinese culture since the 6th grade. I am achieving high grades in class demonstrating my interest and proficiency. Now I want to take this to a new level, while expanding my understanding of the world, meeting new friends, and having unique global experiences. I aim to be proficient enough in the language, to obtain the International Baccalaureate Mandarin certification offered by my high school. BTW did I mention that I also made the Dean’s List this year? The cost of this program is significant. Based on my academic merit I am the lucky recipient of a scholarship that covers half the tuition. This leaves the remaining tuition, airfare, and various other expenses that my family needs to cover. I am determined to contribute toward this so I am ramping up my various hourly jobs, creating new opportunities for additional income, and... this is where you come in! Quiero compartir buenas noticias con ustedes. Fui aceptada en un programa de verano, para estudiar Mandarin en Taiwan. CIEE/Global Navigators selecciona estudiantes de secundaria y les ofrece un programa de inmersión de 4 semanas, en el idioma de interés. Viajo a Taipei el 8 de Julio de 2023. He estado fascinada con la cultura China y su idioma. Estudio Mandarin desde sexto grado. He logrado resultados excelentes, y quiero llevar mi dominio del idioma a otro nivel. A la misma vez, quiero expandir mi percepción del mundo, hacer nuevos amigos y tener una experiencia única y global. Mi objetivo es lograr el nivel necesario para la certificación internacional de Mandarin en el Baccalaureat, que ofrece mi escuela. Los costos de este programa son significativos. Obtuve una beca que cubre el 50% del curso, basado en mis méritos académicos. Quedan por cubrir el restante de la matrícula, los gastos de viaje y otros varios gastos que deberá enfrentar mi familia. Yo estoy trabajando horas extras en mis oficios fuera de la escuela pues necesito contribuir a este proyecto enorme.
