Alexa & Isaiah Suarez Rodriguez – Brother & Sister Expenses – Please Help

This horrific car accident should have never happened. And, it should have never happened to them. But, it did.

Our niece (Alexa, 19) and nephew (Isaiah, 12) were proceeding through the intersection of San Juan Avenue and Firestone Boulevard in South Gate on Wednesday, November 3rd at around 3:55 PM. As they were making a left turn onto San Juan, a silver pick-up truck violently struck their car – t-boning the passenger side door.

The South Gate Police Department reported on Instagram that speed was likely a contributing factor. While the investigation is underway, news stories and videos on Instagram, Facebook, CBS Los Angeles and Fox 11 News have gone viral. We are asking any witnesses to contact the SGPD.

Although the posted speed limit is 35 miles-per-hour, the collision occurred with such force that it pushed our kids’ vehicle backward approximately 75-feet. South Gate Fire Department arrived within minutes of the accident. Alexa had already been pulled to safety by a good Samaritan (a man) who was nearby. Another good Samaritan (a woman), was unable to open Isaiah’s passenger door. However, she used her sweater to wrap his head and reduce the bleeding.

Firefighters reportedly used hydraulic “jaws of life” to pull our nephew from the wreckage. Then, paramedics rushed our niece and nephew (as well as the two occupants from the other vehicle) to nearby hospitals.

Our niece was treated by the medical staff at St. Francis Hospital for a concussion, broken bones and lacerations. She was released a few days later and is starting the healing, recovery and rehabilitation processes. We thank God for bringing her through alive.

Our nephew was treated by an incredible group of doctors, nurses and staff at Long Beach Memorial Hospital. But, the point of impact was his front passenger door, which caused severe injuries to his head, brain and abdomen. The entire emergency room team worked tirelessly to save his life – restarting his heart three times during transport and intake. Despite their heroic efforts, he succumbed to his injuries that evening. He was pronounced dead at approximately 8:30 PM.

To all of those who helped our children that fateful night – the good Samaritans, firefighters, paramedics, policemen and women, doctors, nurses and staff – we thank you all so very much. You are the kind of people Isaiah loved and respected for making our communities a better place to live.

Born and raised in Southern California. Isaiah was an avid fan of the Dodgers, Lakers, Kings and Raiders. He was interested in becoming a chef, but like most 12-year-old boys, he loved playing games on his Nintendo Switch. His favorite game was Animal Crossing and he made sure he always had the biggest and coolest village. He also loved Miraculous and action figures, which he would pile into his backpack to share with his younger cousins. He loved backyard parties, especially playing and swimming with his family. Some of his favorite animated cartoons were the Kung fu Panda series (skadoosh!), My Hero Academia and Toy Story. He also loved action movies, especially Marvel and DC.

He attended South East Middle School and previously Madison Elementary. He absolutely loved his friends, teachers and principal, but like any other kid, he wished he didn’t have to go to school to see all of them. Thank you all for making his life better. Your friendship and teaching contributed to him being such a terrific kid, including becoming a mathemagician.

Anyone who knew Isaiah would say he was special – one of the sweetest kids you would want to know. He had a soft voice, tender touch and contagious laugh. He was always the first one to help, especially those in need.

He loved God, prayed every evening and was thankful for all of his blessings. We have no doubt that he is at peace in heaven.

We have set up this GoFundMe page on behalf of our incredible sister/sister-in-law, Betsabe (Betsa) Suarez. Like many people, she is a single mom struggling to make ends meet but always making sure her kids had everything they need. The emotional toll has been devastating. With your help, we are hoping to relieve some of her financial burden.

Please know that 100% of any donations will go directly to her to cover funeral, rehabilitation, medical and other related expenses. Thank you so much.

We miss you so very much, Isaiah. Thanks for giving us 12 wonderful years. You will always be, our little Chondis.

Please feel free to share this with others.
