Alex's Surgury!

Hi everyone! For those of you who don't know me, my name is Alex - I am a grad student, a community advocate, and a nonbinary transman!

I began transitioning about a year ago with the full intent of getting top surgery as my chest is a huge source of dysphoria; however, the past few months of quarantine have really driven home for me that continuing to wait for this procedure has done nothing but damage to my mental and physical  health. That said, thanks to the support of my trans family, an opportunity has recently come up that will allow me to get the operation over this summer!

Thanks to the ongoing pandemic, it seems like I will not be able to renew my visa for the country in which I'm currently living and will have to relocate this coming fall. While this itself is not set in stone, nor would it be the end of the world, it would definitely set my transition back substantially as I would have to begin again the process of finding a network, finding doctors, and navigating insurance. On top of this, the funding which I receive for my graduate program will be ending in June. With finding extra work under quarantine proving extremely difficult,  my ability to save money at all will soon be completely gone. Because of this, I worry that I won't have another another chance like the one I have now for a pretty long time and I really do not want to let it pass me by. 

As challenging as the future may be, I'm currently in a very fortunate position. Thanks to the currency exchange rate, the total cost of my procedure is approximately 1200 USD. While this may not seem like much, it is a lot to me. I wish that I did not have to ask for help, but right now there is no way that I can pay for this alone. I know that money is tight for everyone with COVID-19 in full effect, but if anyone can spare any amount, I would be so extremely grateful :) Even just sharing this page would mean so much to me! 

Furthermore, if anything comes up which would allow me to better self-fund my surgery, I promise that every penny raised from this fundraiser that I do not immediately need will be redistributed within the community (in particular, to TPOC housing, medical, and emergency funds).
