I am Alex Simonyan, an international student from Armenia. I’m a 2nd-year Computer Engineering student at the University of California San Diego, one of the world’s top 20 universities.

 

I have been given this incredible opportunity to pursue my higher education at such a university and work towards my dream of making a career in Computer Science and Engineering. Despite all the hardships in recent times, such as the pandemic, a war in my home country and many other issues, I have been highly motivated to make the most of this opportunity and fully focused on studying well in all of my classes. As a result, I currently have a 4.0 major GPA and a 3.933 total GPA (see my transcript below).

 

The cost of attendance at UCSD for international students is about $45,000 each academic year. My parents and relatives can provide $15,000 of the expenses. Because it is very difficult for me to get scholarships as an international student, I have to rely on your support to cover the remaining $30,000 that will allow me to continue my education at UCSD next year. Any small contribution will mean the world to me because any amount brings me closer to the goal and makes it more feasible to achieve my goals and make a positive impact.

 

About Me and My Goals

 

Since childhood, I've had a strong interest in Math, Physics, and Programming. I've always been passionate about these subjects because they involve a lot of problem-solving and require skills. In addition, I enjoy taking on challenges and gaining experience, so I find it very entertaining and rewarding to finally solve a difficult problem after lots of effort. Due to this, I knew since school that Computer Science and Engineering would be the most appropriate field for me to pursue my higher education and career in.

 

Today, more than ever, Armenia is in need of young professionals with a high-quality education in order to develop. My generation’s responsibility is to build a prosperous future for our country. As someone who has been blessed with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to study abroad in one of the top universities in the world and one of the most highly demanded fields, it is also my responsibility to support my country’s development. After finishing my higher education, I want to return to Armenia and use my knowledge and experience to make a positive impact.
