Alex Satterfield - Recovery & Medical Bills
Donation protected
Hi, this is Lauren U'Ren, Tommy Watts, and Rachel Crown-Belote reaching out for support of our dear friend Alex Satterfield as she struggles with some very serious medical issues. Alex recently suffered an injury to her neck, causing a vertebral artery disecction of both of her main artery's that supply blood to the brain. This disecction resulted in several strokes affecting her cerebellum (base of brain) on the left side. Which in turn led to her needing to have a section of her skull removed in order to allow room for her brain to swell from the injury. While in surgery to remove that section of skull, it was discovered that the left artery was too damaged for repair, and she lost use of this artery permanently. She made it through surgery safely, but the next few days/nights were very touch and go. It was a delicate balance of keeping the blood thin to avoid clots, but not too thin tht she would suffer from any brain bleeds. 2 days post-op, she suffered another 2 strokes which affected both the left and right side of her cerebellum this time. Her right artery is still damaged, and she has a long road to recovery, but has been showing significant signs of improvement over the last 2-3 days. The cerebellum controls balance, coordination, and depth perception, so she will have to work very hard to ensure she gets her strength back and to focus on getting the rehabilitation she needs to improve her balance and coordination. All of this recovery is critical for her being able to resume her normal independent life activites such as driving, and just walking to the bathroom without falling. Please consider making a monetary contribution to help ease her financial burdens during this very difficult time, so that all she has to focus on is her health and well-being. All donations, large or small, are deeply appreciated!! :)
In addition to the monetary donations, we will be setting up a food train in the next few days as we get more information regarding her potential release from the hospital. Right now she has been moved from ICU to a step-down transition room, assuming all goes well over the next few days, it sounds like she will be going to inpatient rehabilitation for a few days after release from the hospital. And depending on how that goes, she will hopefully get to go home in the next week or two from today.
We will continue to post updates every few days with her progress, but right now she just needs lots of rest and relaxation so she can begin the healing process. Thank you all in advance for reading this far, and for donating any amount that you can afford!
Kind Regards,
Tommy, Rachel & Lauren
