Alex Rubinshteyn (Sasha Lebele) passed away on Monday Oct 1st, 2018 at the young age of 44.  Alex was the only child to Lev and Maya Rubinshteyn, who escaped Russian persecution of Jews in the 70s and immigrated to the United States to find better a life for their son, Alex.

Alex had been through a lot over the last four years.  His dad fell ill in late 2014 and passed away in February of 2015.  Two years after losing his father, Alex was diagnosed with a rare form of esophageal cancer.  He was unable to have anything by mouth for several months. He went through intensive Chemo and Radiation treatments and was hopeful to beat the Cancer.  By late 2017 his tumor had shrunk enough where doctors were ready to surgically remove it. While in the operating room, his doctors found abnormal growth in his stomach area that turned out to be stage 4 abdominal cancer.  Alex and his family were devastated by this, but Alex kept the positive attitude.  And Alex kept the fight….but by Labor Day of 2018, Alex experienced a series of complications that caused him to be hospitalized.  During lab testing it was discovered that the tumors had spread into his colon, which created a severe blockage.   Weighing pros and cons of available treatment options and quality of life, Alex and his family decided to choose quality of life, and use the time left to the fullest.  He went home under hospice care.  Alex lost his battle and passed with his family around him shortly after 5PM on Monday Oct 1st, 2018.  He is in a better place and is not suffering anymore.

Alex touched so many people.  He was a genuine individual who was not afraid to speak his mind and do the right thing.   He was a true soldier, both at work, and with his fight against cancer.

Alex was a family man who took pride in taking care of his mother and father.  His biggest fear was to leave his Mom (Maya) alone.  His Mom has been thru a lot the last several years.  Cancer has taken both Lev and Alex from Maya.  Maya is going to need a lot of love and support. Alex’s Army is being established so that Maya is not alone, and cures can be found to cancer.   We, “Alex’s Army”, are asking for your support, to help fund cancer research. We hope that you will contribute what you can in support. All donations from this campaign will be going directly to help form Alex’s Army and to cancer research charities in Alex’s name and memory.   Mike Kennedy (Alex's close friend and member of Alex's Army) will be handling this transaction on Alex's Army behalf.

If you have any inquiries on other ways to donate your services or financial support, please email Alex’s Army.

Your help and support of any kind is very valuable and appreciated!
