Alex Roehl's Wish for Ava & Jack

On Friday, March 19th the world lost a dedicated son, mischievous younger brother, larger than life uncle, loving husband, proud father, Fordson Class of 1987 graduate, passionate Detroit Lions fan, food aficionado, Twitter enthusiast, political expert, and loyal friend with the passing of Alexander Roehl.
At the young and unfair age of 21, Alex started to experience health issues and was told that he needed a liver transplant. At that time, he was given a life expectancy of 7 years. Alex exceeded all doctors' expectations - always with a smile on his face, a joke or two, and often with a chicken shawarma in his hands. He was overjoyed to marry the love of his life, Laurie, an old elementary school classmate, and together they celebrated the birth of their twins, Jack and Ava, in 2009.
Jack and Ava were Alex's pride and joy. He was deeply invested in their future. He communicated early and often to them about the importance of education as a pathway for their hopes and dreams. He was actively involved, working with them throughout the schoolyear and summer vacations.
Over the years, Alex continued to experience health complications but never once complained. Not many knew of his health issues, because he was a private person and instead spent his time making others laugh - including the physicians and nurses he met at hospitals during his two liver transplants, two organ rejections, five heart attacks (one a widow-maker), kidney failure, countless surgeries, and complications from life-sustaining medications such as osteoporosis, gout, Cushing's Syndrome, and fractures (just to name a few). His family and friends, old and new, those he met online and in person, were important to him and he even kept in touch during hospital stays and when in pain.
During life's challenges, people often say they keep going for their kids, but Alex truthfully kept fighting, he kept pushing, he kept LIVING for his children to be with them as long as he could.
Funds raised here will go directly to his family to support Alex's hopes and dreams for his children, especially his most sincere wish that they attend college.
Thank you.
