Hi! I’m Katie (she/they), and I’m writing on behalf of my very hot and very brave partner Alex (they/them)—a perfect, chronically ill, nonbinary journalist who has spent years working in news, covering chaos, and putting off their own needs in favor of everything else.

But now? It’s their turn.

We’re thrilled. We’re nervous. And, like many people seeking gender-affirming care, we’re staring down a price tag that makes the whole thing feel just out of reach—so we’re asking for help to close the gap.

This isn't just a surgery—it's a step toward feeling safe in their body!

As someone who's chronically ill, Alex already spends a lot of time navigating what it means to live in a body that the world doesn't always accommodate. Top surgery is a moment where they get to choose care on their own terms.

We've been speeding up a lot of big life decisions lately—marriage, medical choices, financial risk-taking—because the world isn't exactly giving ✨stable future✨ energy. But in the face of all that uncertainty, we're still choosing joy, love, and ourselves.

We’re asking for to help cover:

• $8,800 for surgery + hospital fees

• Anesthesia + medical supplies

• Gas, parking, and post-op care

• A few weeks of lost income while Alex recovers

We’ll be healing at home in DC, surrounded by pillows, heating pads, and Cowboy the cat—who has offered zero practical help but lots of moral support.
