Alex Needs You: Recovering from Spinal Trauma

Our dear friend Alex needs a helping hand. We all know and love him and his animals need their owner healed and happy. Here’s his story, if you have a little change please think about tossing it his way.

No better way to explain his story and condition than him:

Things that don’t mix well; bleach and ammonia, oil and water, and driving a borrowed truck that you’ve been adjusting to on an unfamiliar, slippery road right after heavy rain.

Yeah, that last incident occurred last Wednesday morning. Ended up getting into an accident with a tree, and once I stepped outta the truck to assess the damage (I likely had a concussion), I proceeded to fall about 15 feet off the edge of a cliff. Always remember to look down, folks. I managed to crawl back up about halfway and was eventually rescued by some neighbors who witnessed my foolishness.

I underwent surgery to repair the broken vertebrae in my spine and now I’ve got some very cool rods and screws keeping me together. I have significant bruising on my right foot, and my lower abdomen is sore and stiff. Doc said I was very lucky and should be able to go back to my previous lifestyle with minimal restrictions! It could have been much worse.

I’m in quite a bit of pain but I am still alive! It seems that it will take more than this to defeat me.

If you tried to reach me last week and I haven’t responded, it’s because the lovely hospital I’m in “lost” my phone (along with my expensive earbuds). I’ve been using my IPad which is struggling with the hospital Wi-Fi. I’ve got a new phone with the same number, so feel free to reach out if you’d like! Love you all and I look forward to seeing y’all back in the real world.

CURRENT CONDITION:

Heyo everybody!

Just wanted to let everyone know I’m alive and have been home for about a week!

Had a time at Highland (thank you to the trauma team for fixing my spine, however I'll see some of those nurses in hell) and the staff at Kaiser were amazing. Luckily, the doctors said they expect a full recovery, so I'll be back on my bullshit in no time! Well, in about 3–6 months. Doctors have me on a LOT of meds to make sure everything heals right. They gave me a big stupid brace that I have to wear at all times to make sure my spine doesn't heal wrong, but I hate the damn thing. Really hoping to replace it with something else soon.

This first week back home has been a struggle; adjusting to the fact that I can’t do much of anything has been driving me mad, and I still get bad twinges of pain, but I’m doing alright! My father has been helping with my animals, and for that I'm incredibly grateful.

I've been keeping myself busy with word searches, video games and drawing, but I miss going out and being able to bend (lol). I really appreciate all the support and well-wishes! Sorry I haven't replied to each of you! I really miss seeing everyone! Can’t wait to be back out in the real world causing problems and starting fires!

Love ya all!
